Editor basics

The editor is a multi-track timeline for cutting, captioning and exporting your videos.

The timeline

• Video, audio and text tracks. The top video track is the top visual layer. Tracks can be muted, hidden or locked.
• Magnetic main track. The bottom video track never has gaps: deleting or trimming a clip closes the gap, and dropping a clip inserts it and pushes the rest to the right.
• Linked audio. A video and its audio move, trim and split together. Detach them with Ctrl Shift D (⌘ Shift D on Mac) or from the right-click menu.

Everyday editing

1. Drag media from the left panel (Library, uploads, stock) onto the timeline.
2. Move the playhead and press S to split, Delete to remove, Shift Delete to ripple delete.
3. Select a clip to open its toolbar: speed, volume, animation, keyframes, crop and replace.
4. Add captions automatically from the speech, then restyle them.

Autosave

Changes save automatically about a second after you make them. If you lose your connection, a local copy is kept and the editor offers to restore it next time.

Exporting

Press Export and choose the quality (720p up to 2160p, depending on your plan), format (MP4, plus HEVC, ProRes, GIF, PNG sequence, MP3 or WAV on eligible plans) and frame rate. Set in/out points (I and O) to export only part of the timeline.
